History - Knockout Washouts
Mexico failed to win a round of 16 encounter in its last five World Cups and have reached the last eight twice, both at home, in 1970 and 1986. They are the only team from CONCACAF to win a FIFA tourney though, the 1999 Confederations Cup. Also they defeated Brazil 2-1 to win the 2012 London Olympics Gold Medal

Mexico almost didn't make it to the World Cup as they won just two of the ten matches in the fourth round of qualification. USA's victory over Panama on the last day awarded them a play-off match with OFC qualifier. Mexico defeated intercontinental opponent New Zealand to progress to their sixth consecutive cup
Prospects - Same Old Story
Mexico is expected to progress from their group but a familiar Knockout defeat looms in the form of Spain/Netherlands in the round of 16. Before that, they will have to contend with Croatia and Cameroon
