Bosnia first acquired affiliation from FIFA followed by UEFA, which is the first time a team became a member of the world body before the respective confederation. Prior to independence, Bosnia have been an integral part of Yugoslavian footballing history

2014 FIFA World Cup marks not just the first World Cup, but the first major tourney appearance of Bosnia. They came as close as winning a game away to book a place in a major tournament a few times, 2006 and 2010 World Cup and 2008 and 2012 Euro Cup

Bosnia had a nail biting race with Greece to top the group and acquire the automatic qualifier position. Owing to their home loss to Slovakia, Bosnia had to defeat Greece in the final round to snatch the top position. Although tied up on points, their heavy scoring helped them qualify directly on superior goal difference

Bosnia harbors a chance to get into the knockout stages on debut. In Group F, Argentina appears to be the only superior opponent which could trouble the team but would face a stiffer adversaries in the form of France in the pre-quarters and Germany in the quarter-finals
